After a lof of trying and resetting the bulb and more trying, I was finally able to go through the setup process but it never worked through the UI on visualight.org. To clarify: when the bulb is pulsing blue, both on my laptop and on my phone, I connect to the Visualight-## network (in one case, this network showed as roving1, though), I enter 1.2.3.4, input the ssid and password of my main network connection, the bulb changes to white and the little red led on the back of the board stops blinking, only the yellow is still on - I assume this means I was able to setup the bulb correctly on my main network.
However, when I go to visualight.org all I see is a dialog saying searching for visualight and nothing happens. I tried both on laptop and my phone, same thing. Checked the port 5001 and it is open. I used both Chrome and Firefox which work with websockets.
Anyway, since I assume the bulb connects, is there any other way to test it, like an API command or something? It would be nice to play with the UI but if it doesn't work, can I try something else, just to make sure all is well?
One more question: is there a way to find the Mac address of the bulb? To make sure it connects to my network, I rad advanced IP scanner and I see a couple entries I don't recognize but it's hard to say if they are the bulb or not, with so many other devices connected.
Thank you!

Claudiuo, I'm sorry you're having trouble. Hopefully I can answer all your questions. The first time you setup your Visualight it must be completed through the visualight.org site. Accessing the local wifi reset page, 1.2.3.4, doesn't complete the registration process. If you were able to complete the local reset process then it confirms the hardware is functioning properly. A couple of questions: Where you able to join the "visualight-xx/roving1" network from your computer or phone after you began the setup process from visualight.org? What part of the setup process was failing when you attempted from visualight.org? If you're interested, you can enable debug mode on the visualight by reflashing the firmware. This requires the Arduino platform step by step: Step 1: download arduino - arduino.cc/en/Main/SoftwareStep 2: download Visualight library: github.com/lpercifield/visualight/releases/tag/1.1Step 3: Install the library: arduino.cc/en/Guide/LibrariesStep 4: Enable debug mode in firmware - open Arduino/libraries/visualight/Visualight.cpp with a text editor. Change the line: #define DEBUG 0 -> #define DEBUG 1 and Save the file Step 5: open Arduino and select File/Examples/Visualight/visualight_basic Step 6: Ensure your strip is connected via USB to your computer. If you are running windows check out this step: arduino.cc/en/Guide/Windows#toc4Step 7: Click upload. Step 8: open Serial monitor Step 9: Check out the debug logs as the Visualight starts up and attempts to connect to the server. Let me know if this helps, Leif

First of all, thanks a lot for your reply. I am not sure what I did different this time but I am now setup, the process on visualight.org worked fine, I see my bulb in the lights menu (before, when I tried the setup at visualight.org the process was either getting stuck at the first step, the message "Searching for visualight" never going away or at some point, it got stuck after I entered the wifi info; but this is not important, I am now past that problem). This is the great news. The not so great news is that now no matter what I try the light stays white. Port 5001 is open, I use Google Chrome so websockets should work, I don't have special characters in the ssid/pssw. So basically now I am in the same situation as the one in this post visualight.boards.net/thread/8/visualight-shows-never-changes-colorsLogout and log back in didn't help, the bulb is still solid white no matter what I try in the UI. Looking at the Dev console in Chrome, I don't see any errors, so everything should work. I didn't flash the debug version of the code but if this helps, on the wifi shield the green led blinks a lot and from time to time, the yellow one comes on as well, staying solid lit for a little while then the green one starts blinking again.

Claudio, I'm glad to hear you are having some success. Heres the next steps: Ensure your visualight is turned on and is white. Log into your visualight account and select your bulb. Open the Javascript console in Chrome, then try to change the color using the UI. You should see a log of what is being sent to the server. It should looks like this: {"on":true,"method":"put","hue":44290.83302752293,"sat":254,"bri":145.42745098039214,"alert":{"duration":0,"frequency":0,"type":0},"id":"REALLYLONGIDSTRING","type":"bulb"} If you see "null" where I've replaced with "REALLYLONGIDSTRING", refresh the page and try again. If you see the ID there then copy that whole message and email it to me - leif@visualight.org. I'll check the server logs and see whats happening to your bulb. Unfortunately, after all this time and things I tried, I am still in the same boat. Since it helped another user, I loaded the factory reset sketch and then the default one, re-added the light to the website and still only white works. Can you please tell me what else can I try, I really want to be able to use it. Thank you!
