Dustin, We have a simple RESTful api working that we've been testing in house. The next step is to add API key management and then we will release it! We'll keep you posted on how quickly that will happen, hopefully just a week or two.
I'm not interested in hacking the Visualight hardware, I am interested in integrating it into software, so that I can remote control the LED. For example, I'd like the light to react to events (e.g. the compile failed on the build box, it's going to rain outside). Ideally there would be a generic module on the Visualight, polling a service (such as IFTTT) so that then all of the logic could be on a server where it's easier to manage and update.
I see that there's a visualight server in GitHub but I can't tell (from a quick look) what it does. Does it run on the visualight? On a server somewhere to talk to the visualight?
Thoughts? Is anyone else working on this? If not, I can certainly write a little module to poll an URL and do what it says, assuming the sketch running on the Arduino is the same as what's in GitHub.
Laird, The API is forth coming! The github.com/lpercifield/Visualight_Server github is everything that allows Visualights to be controlled from the web. This is where all the API will also be housed. I'm sorting out all the last details of the API and will update everyone soon!
