IMPORTANT NOTE: Your Visualight will not operate properly if left in debug mode while disconnected from a computer. From Step 4, change the DEBUG flag back to "0" to ensure normal operationStep 1: download arduino - arduino.cc/en/Main/Software Step 2: download Visualight library: github.com/lpercifield/visualight/releases/tag/1.1 Step 3: Install the library files you downloaded in step 2: arduino.cc/en/Guide/Libraries Step 4: Enable debug mode in firmware - open Arduino/libraries/visualight/Visualight.cpp with a text editor. Change the line: #define DEBUG 0 -> #define DEBUG 1 and Save the file Step 5: open Arduino and select File/Examples/Visualight/visualight_basic Step 6: If you want to change the status lights looks for this line of code: visualight.setup("visualight.org", 5001, 0); 0 = off 1 = on, On is better for debugging issues. Step 7: Ensure your strip is connected via USB to your computer. If you are running windows check out this step: arduino.cc/en/Guide/Windows#toc4 or if you have windows 8 check out this post: www.eightlines.com/blog/2012/11/arduino-leonardo-and-windows-8/Step 8: Select your Serial Port: This will be either a "Comm x" on windows or "/dev/tty.usbmodemXXXX" on Mac Step 8: Click upload. Step 9: open Serial monitor - Under the Tools Menu or the magnifying glass icon Step 10: Check out the debug logs as the Visualight starts up and attempts to connect to the server.
